Invest in the Next Generation of Aviation Talent Across the Greater Washington, DC Region and Help Build a Strong, Sustainable Aviation Workforce.

The Case for Investment

The aviation industry is facing its most significant workforce challenge in decades. Without a robust pipeline of new talent, the Greater DC region, a global hub for aviation, risks service disruptions and stunted economic growth.

  • The Global Demand: According to the 2024 Boeing Pilot and Technician Outlook, the industry requires 674,000 new pilots and 716,000 new maintenance technicians over the next 20 years.
  • The Retirement Cliff: By 2030, more than 17,000 airline pilots in the U.S. will reach mandatory retirement age, while nearly 27% of current mechanics are over age 64.
  • The Local Barrier: The Greater DC region drives 5% of the national GDP, yet the high cost of specialized training remains the greatest barrier for local students entering the field.

Our 2026 Goal: Fund 15 Scholarships for DC-Area Students

The Aero Club Foundation of Washington is mobilizing to fund 15 scholarships for students in the Greater DC area, each valued at $5,000.

These awards provide a direct investment in the regional talent pipeline by offsetting tuition for students pursuing careers as:

  • Pilots & Flight Crew
  • Aerospace Engineers
  • Aircraft Maintenance Technicians
  • Air Traffic Controllers
