| About Aero Club |
AwardsThe Aero Club of Washington was originally founded in 1909 to promote the Wright Brothers and their efforts and achievements. Their mastery of powered flight defined aviation, established excellence as a standard, and placed America in the role of global aviation preeminence. The Aero Club continues this ideal in its association with two prestigious awards: the Donald D. Engen Aero Club Trophy for Aviation Excellence and the National Aeronautic Associations Wright Brothers Memorial Trophy. Each year, the Aero Club hosts and sponsors the Wright Brothers Memorial Dinner. The event honors the years recipient of the Wright Trophy. The clubs own award is the Engen Trophy for Aviation Excellence. The Engen Trophy was awarded to and is named after the late Admiral Donald D. Engen. The trophy is given to an individual, team, or organization for a lifetime of achievement in aviation, a single event, or series of events that reaffirms the Wright Brothers standard of excellence in aviation. |
